About AskLegal.my
AskLegal.my explains Malaysian law to the person the problem is happening to. Not to law students, not to other lawyers — to someone at the mamak whose boss just fired them, whose car just got hit, whose father just died without a will.
Every guide follows the same shape: the short answer up front, the law explained in plain language with real Malaysian cases and real ringgit figures, then what to actually do, then the questions everyone asks. Where the law is unsettled or contested, we say so instead of pretending it isn’t.
What we are not
We are not a law firm and we don’t refer readers to lawyers. Nothing here is legal advice, and reading it doesn’t create a lawyer–client relationship. Our work is documentary: every factual claim is checked against statutes, judgments and other published sources, which are listed and annotated at the end of each article, rather than passing through review by practising lawyers. Here’s exactly how that works.
When a guide says “what to actually do”, it points you to the actual tribunal, agency or hotline that handles your problem — the Industrial Relations Department, the Tribunal for Consumer Claims, the NSRC scam line, and so on — because for most everyday legal problems in Malaysia, that’s the real next step.
Who runs this
AskLegal.my is independently run and reader-focused. If something here helped you, the best thing you can do is send it to the next person who needs it. If something here is wrong, tell us.
